1 Corinthians chapters 5 and 6. And it still doesn't prohibit homosexuality

-->

* It is commonly heard that there is immorality among you, and such immorality which is not even among the nations, such as a woman who belongs to a father.

This is one of the forbidden relations in Deut 22:30, 27:20, and in Lev 18:8 and 20:11.

* You are puffed up.  did you not mourn instead? for having done this, he might be taken out of the midst of you.

* I, though being absent in body, am present in spirit; being present, I have already judged the one who did this.

* Having gathered you together in the name of our Lord Jesus, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,

* To deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, in order that his spirit might be saved in the day of the Lord

Paul references Job 2:3:  Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason."

* Not good is your boasting. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

Paul references Hosea 7:4:  They are all adulterers;
they are like a heated oven
whose baker ceases to stir the fire,
from the kneading of the dough
until it is leavened.

* Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

* Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

* I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with immoral ones—

The Corinthians don’t listen to Paul.

* Certainly not with the immoral of this world, or the covetous and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.

Paul gives a short version of the top 10 “you will not” list.

* Now I am writing to you not to associate with him.   If any brother is designated immoral or covetous, or idolater, or reviler, or drunkard, or or swindler—do not even eat with such a one.

* What is it to me to judge those outside? Do you not judge those among you?

 * God will judge those outside. You will put the evil person out from among yourselves.

* Does anyone of you dare, having a matter against the other, to go to law before the unjust and not before the holy ones?

* Or do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy of the smallest judgments?

* Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more than living things?

* If you have judgment of living things, which are lest esteemed in the community, do you set them up?

* For shame to you, I say. Is there no one among you, a wise man,  who is able to decide between his brothers?

* But brother goes to law with brother, and this before unbelievers?

* Already indeed, this is altogether a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits have among one another. Why not suffer wrong instead? Why not be defrauded instead?

* But you do wrong and defraud—and these things to your brothers

* Or do you not know that the unrighteous ones will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be misled: neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor cowards not men who disown their own offspring or cause other men to disown their offspring

* Nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

* Some of you were these things. But you were washed, you were made holy, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

* All things are lawful for me, but not all things do profit.  All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

* Foods are for the belly and the belly is for foods, but God will bring to nought both of these things.  The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

The word used in this verse is πορνεια, but translating it as “sexual immorality” is a problem.  Paul has not used a metaphor relating sex to food, it does not make sense to do so now.  Moreover, the prohibited sexual relations in Deuteronomy and Leviticus all deal with a specific issue:  ownership of the progeny.  Paul does not outline that specific for his Corinthian audience, even though his opening reference is to a man who is involved with his father's wife.

 * And God raised both the Lord and us up by his power.

 * Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Having taken the members of Christ, shall I then make them members of a prostitute? May it never happen.

 * Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute is one body? For indeed he says, “two in one flesh.”

 * He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.

* Flee immorality. Every sin which a human might practice is outside the body, but the immoral human sins against his own body.

* Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy spirit in you, which you have from God? You are not your own,

* You were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s.
