Καγω, ελθων προς υμας αδελφοι, ηλθον ου καθ υπεροχην λογου η σοφιας καταγγελλων υμιν το μυστηριον του θεου

* I, having come to you, brothers, came not according to excellence of word or wisdom, proclaiming to you the mystery of God.

Ου γαρ εκρινα τι ειδεναι εν υμιν ει μη Ιησουν Χριστον και τουτον εσταυρωμενον

 * I decided not to know anything in you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Καγω εν ασθενεια και εν φοβω και εν τρομω πολλω εγενομην προς υμας

* And in weakness and in fear and much trembling I was with you,

και ο λογος μου και το κηρυγμα μου ουεν πειθοις σοφιας λοφοις αλλ εν αποδεξει πνευματος και δυναμεως

* And my word and my proclaiming were not in persuasive wise words, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

ινα η πιστις ημων μη η εν σοφια ανθρωπων αλλ εν δυναμει θεου

* In order that your faith might not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

σοφιαν δε λαλουμεν εν τοις τελειοις σοφιαν δε ου του αιωνος τουτου ουδε των αρχοντων του αιωνος τουτου των καταφγουμενων

* Wisdom we speak among the mature, wisdom not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nought.

This has the sound of a reference to Hadrian.

Αλλα λαλουμεν θεου σοφιαν εν μυστηριω την αποκεκρυμμενην, ην προωρισεν ο θεος προ των αιωνων εις δοξαν ημων

* But we speak of wisdom of God, in a mystery, hidden, which God predetermined before the ages for our glory.

Ην ουδεις των αρχοντων του αιωνος τουτου εγωκεν ει γαρ εγνωσαν ουκ αν τον κυριον της δοξης εσταυρωσαν

* Which none of the rulers of this age has understood, for if they had understood, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 

Αλλα καθως γεγραπται α οφθαλμος ουκ ειδεν και ους ουκ εξουσεν και επι καρδιαν ανθρωπου ουκ ανεβη α ητοιμασεν ο θεος τοις αγαπωσιν αυτον

* But as it has been written,

* “Things which eye has not seen, ear not heard,
and into the heart of did not come,
which God as prepared for those who love him”

Paul references Isaiah 64:4:

From of old no one has heard
or perceived by the ear,
no eye has seen a God besides you

Isaiah 64:10 says:

Zion has become a wilderness,
Jerusalem a desolation.

ημιν δε απεκαλυψεν ο θεος δια του πνευματος το γαρ πνευμα παντα αραθνα και τα βαθη του θεου

* To us, God has revealed through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

τις γαρ οιδεν ανθρωπων τα του ανθρωπου ε μη το πνεμα του ανθρωπου το εν αυτω ουτως και τα του θεου ουδεις εγνωκεν ει μη το πνευμα του θεου

* Who knows of humans the things of a human if not the spirit of the human which is in him? So no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

ημεις δε ου το πνεθμα του κασμου ελαβομεν αλλα το πνεθμα το εκ του θεου ινα ειδωμεν τα υπο του θεου χαρισθεντα ημιν

 * We, not the spirit of the world, have received, but the Spirit who is from God, in order that we might know the things God granted to us.

Α και λαλουμεν ουκ εν δδακτοις ανθρωπινης σοφιας λοφοις αλλ εν διδακτοις πνευματος πνευματικοις πνευματικα σθνκρινοντες

 * Which we speak, not in teachings of wise words of humans, but in teachings from the Spirit, by spiritual,  communicating spiritual things.

ψυχικος δε ανθρωπος ου δεχεται τα του πνεματος του θεου μωρια γαρ αυτω εσιν και ου δυναται γνωναι οτι πνευματικως ανακρινεται

* Natural human does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them because they are spiritually discerned. 

Ο δε πνευματικος ανακρινει τα παντα αυτος δε υπ ουδενος αναρκινεται

* The spiritual human judges all things himself, is judged by no one.

τις γαρ εγνω νουν κυριοου ος συμβιβασει αυτον ημεις δε νουν Χριστου εχομεν

* Who has known the mind of the Lord?  Who will instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
