2 Corinthians Chapters 7-9: "Paul" advocates equality (and some more inaccurate citations)

* Having these promises, beloved, we should ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in fear of God.

* Receive us. We wronged no one, we corrupted no one, we exploited no one.

* I do not speak for condemnation, for I said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together.

* Great boldness in toward you; great pride in me to you; I have been filled with  encouragement. I overabound with joy at our tribulation.

* We having come into Macedonia, our flesh not having any ease, in every way being oppressed—contentions on the outside, fears within.

* The one who encourages those brought low, God encouraged us by Titus’ coming,

* Not only by his coming but also by the encouragement with which hewas encouraged by you, relating to us your earnest desire, your mourning, your jealousy for me, so that I rejoiced more.

* If I grieved you in my letter, I do not regret it—if I did regret it, I see that the same letter, if for an hour, grieved you.

*  Now I rejoice, not that you were grieved, but that you were grieved into repentance. You were grieved according to God, so that you might suffer no loss through us.

* Grief according to God, produces without regret repentance into salvation, and grief of the world, death.

* Behold this very same thing, to have been grieved according to God, how much earnestness in god it produced, but defense, but anger, but fear, but longing, but jealousy, but vengeance.  In every way you proved yourselves to be pure in this matter.

* And if I wrote to you, not for the sake of the one having done wrong, nor for the sake of the one having suffered wrong, but for the sake of your earnestness to be revealed for us to you before God.

“Paul” now uses ενεκεν instead of δια.

* On account of this we have been comforted.  And besides our comfort, we rejoiced the more abundantly at Titus’ joy, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

 * If I boasted anything about you to, I was not put to shame. But we spoke everything to you in truth, so [was] our boasting, which became truth to Titus.

 *  His affections for you are more abundant, remembering the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling.

* I rejoice, because I am confident in you in everything.

* We make known to you, brothers, the favor of God which has been given in the gatherings of Macedonia,

* that in much proof of tribulation, their abundance of joy and their deep poverty have abounded to their wealth of generousity.

* I bear witness that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, [they were] willing of themselves,

* Imploring us with much entreaty the favor and the communion of the service which was the holy ones.

*  And not as we hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

 * Into urging Titus that as he before began, so he might complete with you this favor.

 * B even as in every way you abound—in faith, in word, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—you should also [abound[ in this favor.

* I do not speak as a command, through the earnestness of others, proving the genuineness of your love.

* You know the favor of our Lord Jesus Christ, through you be became poor, being rich, in order that you of that poverty might be enriched.

* I give this my: this is profitable for you, not only the ones doing but also the ones being willing, began before a year ago.

*  Complete the doing, so that even as there was readiness of being willing, there is also completing.

* If readiness is present, what he might have is acceptable, not what he does not have.

*  Not ease to others, to you affliction, but of equality

 * At the present time, your abundance for their need, so that their abundance might be for this of you, so there should be equality.

* As it has been written, “Who gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”

An inaccurate citation of Ex:16:18: “And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed.”

*  Favor to God, who gives the same earnestness for you into the heart of Titus.

*  He received our urging, and being more earnest, he went out to you.

 * We sent with him the brother who is praised in the good news though all the gatherngs.

* Not only, but having been chosen by the gatherings our fellow-traveller with this favor  which we administer, for the glory of the Lord himself and our readiness.

* Avoiding this, someone should not blemish us, in this abundance which is administered by us,

 * We provide good things,  not only before the Lord, but also before men.

* We sent with them our brother whom we proved in many things often being earnest, now much more earnest by the great confidence toward you.

 * Either regarding Titus, my partner and fellow-worker for you. Or regarding our brothers, messengers of the gatherings, the glory of Christ.

 * Therefore showing your love and our boasting about in the face of the gatherings

* iIt is superfluous for me to write to you about the service for the holy ones,

*  I know your readiness, which I boasted about you to the Macedonians, that Achaia has been prepared since last year. And your jealousy has provoked the greater number.

*  I am sent the brothers so that our boasting about you might not prove void in this matter, in order that you might be prepared as I said.

* Perhaps some Macedonians might not come with me and find that you are unprepared, we would be put to shame, in order that we may not say you in this confidence.

* I thought it necessary to urge the brothers that they should go before to you should complete beforehand this foreannounced blessing of you, to be ready as a blessing and not as covetousness.

*  The one who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and the one who sows blessings will reap blessings.

* Each as he purposes his heart, not from regret or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

* God is able to make all favor abound to you, in order that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

 * As it has been written,

“He has scattered freely, he gave to the poor;
his righteousness abides forever.”

An inaccurate citation of Psalm 112:9:  “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn will be lifted high in honor.”

Σπορον not σπερμα

* The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for eating will supply and multiply your seed and increase the fruits of your righteousness.

* In every way being enriched to all generousity, produces through us thanksgiving to God.

* Through the ministry of this service is not only completely filling up the needs of the holy ones but is also abounding in many thanksgivings to God.

Through the proof of this service, glorifying God at the submission of your confession in the good news of Christ, and the participation of contribution toward them and toward all,

 * By their supplication for you, longing for you, on account of the surpassing favor of God upon you.

 * Favor to God his indescribable gift!
