δικακωθενετες ουν εκ
πιστεως ειρηνην εχομεν προς θεον δια του κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου
* Having been justified by faith, we have peace
toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Δι ου και την προσαγωγην εσχηκαμεν τη πιστει εις την χαριν
ταυτην εν η εστηκαμεν και καυχωμεθα επ ελπιδι της δοξης του θεου
* Through whom we
have access by faith into this favor in which we stand, and we boast in hope
of the glory of God.
Ου μονον δε αλλα και καυχωμεθα εν ταις θλθψεσιν ειδοτες
οτι η θλιψις υπομονην κατεργαζεται
*
Not only that,
but we boast in the tribulation, knowing that tribulation produces endurance,
Η δε υπομονη δοκιμην η δε δοκιμη ελπιδα
*
And
endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
Η δε ελπις ου καταισχυνει οτι η αγαπη του θεου εκκχυται εν
ταις καρδιαις ημων δια πνευματος αγιου του δοθεντος ημιν
* And hope does
not make shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through
the holy spirit having been given to us.
Ετι γαρ Χριστος οντων ημων αστενων ειτ κατα καιρον υπερ
αστβων απεθανεν
*
For Christ
still, being without our strength,
according to the right time, died for the ungodly.
μολις γαρ υπερ δικαιου τις αποθανειται υπερ γαρ του
αγαθου ταχα τις και τολμα αποθανειν
* Rarely
will anyone die for a righteous man—perhaps someone might dare to die on behalf of a good man—
σθνιστησιν δε
την εαυτου εις ημας ο θεος ετι αμαρτωλων οντων ημων Χριστος υπερ ημων απεθανεν
* God commends
his love for us because while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
ουν μαλλον
δικαιωθεντες νυν τω αιματι αυτου σωθησομεθα δε αυτου απο της αργης
* Having been
justified by his blood, much more we will be saved by him from the wrath of
God.
Ει γαρ εχθροι κατηλλαγημεν τω θεοω δια του θανατου του
υιου αυτου πολλω μαλλον καταλλαγεντες σωθησομεθα εν τη ζωη αυτου
* If being enemies,
we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been
reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
Ου μονον δε αλλα και καυθωμενοι εν τω θεω δια του κυριου
ημων Ιησου Χριστου δι ου νυν την καταλλαγν ελαβομεν
* Not
only that,
we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we now
received reconciliation.
Δια τουτο ωσπερ δε
ενος ανθρωπου η αμαρτια εις τον καομον εισηλθεν και δια της αμαρτιας ο θανατος
και ουτως εις παντας ανθρωπους ο θανατος διηλθεν εφ ω παντες ημαρτον
*
Because of this,
just as sin entered into the world through one man, and through sin, death, and
so death passed to all men for all sinned—
αχρι γαρ νομου αμαρτια ην εν κοσμω αμαρτια δε ουκ
ελλογειται μη οντος νομου
* Until law, sin
was in world, but sin is not put to account not being law.
Αλλα εβασιλευσεν ο θανατος απο αδαμ
μεχρι Μωυσεως και επι τους μη αμαρτησαντας επι τω ομοιωματι της παραβασεως Αδαμ
ος εστιν τυπος του μελλοντος
* But death
reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those not having sinned in the likeness
of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the coming one.
Αλλα ουκ ως το παραπτωμα ουτως και το
καρισμα ει γαρ τω του ενος παραπρωματι οι πολλοι απεθανον πολλω μαλλον η χαρις
του θεου και η δωρεα εν χαριτι τη του ενος
ανθρωπου Ιησου Χριστου εις τους
πολλους επρισσευσεν
*
But the favor [is] not as the trespass. For if many died by the trespass of
one, much more the favor of God and the gift by the favor which [is] of one man
Jesus Christ abounded to the many.
Και ουκ οι ενος αμαρτησαντος το δωρημα το μεν γαρ κριμα εη
ενος εις κατακρινμα το δε χαρισμα εκ πλοοων παραπρωματων εις δικαιωμε
*
And the
gift is not as through result of one who sinned. The judgment [was] of one to
condemnation, but the gift from many trespasses brought justification.
Ει γρα το του ενος παραπτωματι ο θανατος εβασιλευσεν δια
του ενος πολλω μαλλον οι την περισσειαν της χαριτος και της δωρεας της
δικαιοσυνης λαμβανοντες εν ζωη βασιλευσουσιν διε του ενος Ιησου Χριστου
* If by the one trespass, death
reigned through one, much more the abundance of favor and the gift of
righteousness receiving will reign in life through the one Jesus Christ.
Αρα ουν δι ενος παραπτωματος εις παντας
ανθρωπους εις κατακριμα ουτως και δε ενος δικαιωματος εις παντας ανθρωπους εις
δικαιωσιν ζωης
So
then, as
through one trespass in all men in condemnation, so through one act of
righteousness in all men in justification of life.
Ωσπερ γαρ διε της παρακοης του ενος ανθροπου αμαρτωλοι
κατεσταθησαν οι πολλοι ουτως και δια της υπακοης του ενος δικαιοι
κατασταθησονται οι πολλοι
* For as by disobedience of one man the
many were appointed sinners, so by the obedience of one the many will be appointed
righteous.
νομος δε παρεισηλθεν ινα πλεοναση το παραπτωμα ου δε
επλεονασεν η αμαρτια υπερεπερισσευσεν η χαρις
* Now the law entered in order that
the transgression might abound, but where sin abounded, favor overabounded,
ινα ωσπερ
εβασιλευσεν η αμαρτια εν τω θανατω ουτως και η χαρις βασιλευση δια δικαιοσυνης
εις ζωην αιωνιον δια Ιησου Χιρστου του κυριου ημων
* So that, as
sin reigned in death, favor also might reign through righteousness to eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Τι ουν ερουμεν επιμενωμεν τη αμαρτια ινα η χαρις πλεοναση
*
What will
we say then? Will we continue in sin that favor might abound?
Μη γενοιτο οιτινες απεθανομεν τη αμαρτια πως ειτ ζησομεν
εν αυτη
* May it never be! How can we
who died to sin still live in it?
Η αγνοειτε οτι οσοι εβαπτισεθημεν εις
Χριστον Ιησουν εις τον θανατον αυτον εβαπτισθημεν
* Are you ignorant that as many
as we were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
This
appears in a different form in 1 Cor.
Συνεταφημεν ουν αυτω δια του βαπτισματος
εις τον θανατον ινα ωσπερ ηγερθη Χριστος εκ νεκρων δια της δοξης του πατρος
ουτως και ημεις εν καινοτητι ζωης περιπατησωμεν
* We were buried therefore with him by
baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the corpses
by the glory of the Father, we too in newness of life might walk.
Ει γαρ συμφυτοι γεγοναμεν τω ομοιωματι του θανατου αυτου
αλλα και της αναστασεως εσομεθα
*
For if
we have become united with him in the likeness of his, we will be of the
resurrection.
Τουτο γινωσκοντες οτι ο παλαιος ημων ανθρωπος σθνεσταυρωθη
ινα καταργηθη το σωμα της αμαρτιας του μηκετι δουλευειν ημας τη αμαρτια
* Knowing
this
that our old man was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be annulled,
so that we no longer be enslaved to sin.
The
traditional translation of this is “our old self.” That might work if there was a concept of
“self” in the ancient world. There was
not.
Ο γαρ αποθανων δεδικαιωται απο της
αμαρτιας
* For one having died has been judtified
from sin.
Ει δε
απεθανομεν συν Χριστω πιστευομεν οτι και συζησομεν αυτω
* If we have died with Christ, we believe
that we will also live with him.
ειδοτες οτι
Χριστος εγερθεις εκ νεκρων ουκετι αποθνησκει θανατος αυτου ουκετι κυριευει
* Knowing that Christ, having
been raised from the corpses, dies no more; death no longer rules over him.
Ο γαρ απεθανεν τη αμαρτια απεθανεν εφαπαξ ο δε ζη ζη τω
θες
* He died, to sin he died, once for all, he lives
he lives he lives in God.
ουτως και υμεις λογιζεσθε εαυτους ειναι νεκρους μεν τη
αμαρτια ζωντας δε τ θεω εν Χριστω Ιησου
*
So you
also consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Μη ουν βασιλευετω η μαρατια εν τω θνητω υμων σωματι εις το
θπακουειν ταις εποθυμιαις αυτου
* Therefore let
sin not reign in your mortal body, in order to obey its lusts.
Μηδε παριστανετε τα μελη υμων οπλα αδικιας τη αμαρτια αλλα
παραστησατε εαυτους τω θεω ωσει εκ νεκρων ζωντας και τα μελη υμων οπλα
δικαιοσυνης τω θεω
* Do not yield your members instruments
for unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God as from among the
corpses alive, and your members instruments for righteousness God as
αμαρτια γαρ υμων ου κυριευσει ου γαρ εστε υπο νομον αλλα
υπο χαριν
* Sin will not
rule over you, since you are not under law but under favor.
Τι ουν αμαρτησωμεν
οτι ουκ εσμεν υπο νομον αλλα υπο χαριν μη γενοιτο
*
What
then? Will we sin because we are not under law but under favor? Never may it be!
ουκ οιδατε οτι ω
παριστανετε εαυτους δουλους εις υποκοην δουλοι εστε ω υπακουετε ητοι μαρατιας
εις θανατον η υποκοης εις δικαιοσυνην
* Do you not know that to whom you yield
yourselves, slaves for obedience, slaves you are to him whom you obey, whether
of sin into death, or of obedience to righteousness?
χαρις δε τω θεω οτι ητε δουλοι της αμαρτιας υπηκουσατε δε
εκ καρδιας εις ον παρεοθητε τυπον διδαχης
* Thanks to God, that you were slaves of sin,
you obeyed from the heart to which you were entrusted a form of teaching,
ελευθεπωθεντες δε απο της αμαρτιας εδουλωθητε τη
δικαιοσυνη
* Having been set free from sin, you became
slaves of righteousness.
Ανθρωπινον δια την ασθενειαν της σαρκος
υμων ωςπερ γαρ παρεστησατε τα μελη υμων δουλα τη ακαθαρσια και τη ανομια εις
την ανομιαν ουτως νυν παραστησατε τα μελη υμων δουλα τη δικαιοσυνη εις αγιασμον
*
Ι speak
humanly, through the weakness of your flesh. For you yielded your members in
slavery to uncleanness and to lawlessness, unto lawlessness, so now yield your
members in slavery to righteousness into sanctification.
Οτε γαρ δουλοι ητε της αμαρτιας ελευθεροι ητε τη
δικαιοσυνη

When you
were slaves of sin, you were free as to righteousness.
Τινα ουν καρπον ειχετε τοτε εφ οις νυν επαισχυνεσθε το γαρ
τελος εκεινων θανατος
* What fruit did you have then from the
things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death.
Νυνι δε ελευθερωθεντες απο της αμαρτιας δουλωθεντες δε τω
θεω εχετε τον μαρπον υμων εις αγιασμον το δε τελος ζωην αιωνιον
* Now having
been set free from sin and have been slaves of God, you have your fruit to
sanctification and [the] end, eternal life.
Τα γαρ οχωνια της αμαρτιας θανατος το δε χαρισμα του θεου
ζωη αιωνοις εν Χριστω Ιησου τω κυριω ημων
* The wages of sin death, but gift of God
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Η αγνοιετε αδελφοι γινωσκουσιν γαρ νομον λαλω οτι ο νομος
κυριευει του ανθρωπου εφ οσον χρονον ζη
*
Are you ignorant,
brothers—I speak to those knowing law—that the law rules over a person for as
long a time as he might live?
Η γαρ υπανδρος γυνη τω ζωντι αδνρι δεδεται νομω εαν δε
αποθανη ο ανηρ κατηργηται απο του νομου του ανδρος
* Α married
woman is bound by law to her living man, but if her husband dies she is cleared
from the law of the man.
Αρα ουν ζωντος του ανδρος μοιχαλις χρηματισει εαν γενηται
ανδρι ετερω εαν δε αποθανη ο ανηρ ελευθερα εστιν απο του νομου του μη ειναι
αυτην μοιχαλιδα γενομενην ανδρι ετερω
*
Then, man
living, she will be called an adulteress if she should be with another man. If
her man should die, she is free from the law, not to be an adulteress if she is
[with] a man.
Because
as long as her man is still alive, she is under contract that any progeny she
produces will be his.
Ωστε αδελφοι μου, και υμεις εθανατωθητε
τω νομω δια του σωματος του χριστου εις το γενεσθαι υμας ετερω τω εκ νεκρων
εγερθεντι ινα καρποφορησωμεν το θεω
My brothers, you
also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, for to be you to
another, from among the corpses, in order that we may bear fruit to God.
Οτε γαρ ημεν εν τη σαρκι τα παθηματα των αμαρτιων τα δια
του νομου ενηργειτο εν τοις μελεσιν ημων εις το καρποφορησαι τω θανατω
* While we were in
the flesh, the passions of sins, which were through the law in our members to
bringing forth fruit, death.
Νυνι δε κατηργηθημεν απο
του νομου αποθανοντες εν ω κατειχομεθα ωστε δουκευειν ημας εν καινοτητι
πνευματος και ου παλαιοτητι γραμματος
* Now we are cleared from the law, having
died in which we were held, so that we should serve in newness of spirit and
not in oldness of letter.
Τι ουν ερουμεν ο
νομος αμαρτια μη γενοιτο αλλα την αμαρτιαν ουκ εγνων ει μη δια νομου την τε γαρ
επιθυμιαν ουκ ηδειν ει μη ο νομος ελεγεν ουκ επιθυμησεις
*
What will
we say? The law is sin? Never may it be! But I did not know sin if never
through law. I had not been conscious of coveting if the law had not said, “You
shall not covet.”
Sounds
like blaming the media. Previously,
“Paul” has been impersonal about the law.
Αφορμην δε λαβοθσα η αμαρτια δια της
εντολης κατειργασατο εν εμοι πασαν εποθυμιαν χωρις γαρ νομου αμαρτια νεκρα
* Sin, having taken an opportunity through
the command, produced in me all covetousness. Apart from the law, sin [is] dead.
“Paul”
uses the word “command” rather than “law.”
Εγω εζων χωρις νομου ποτε ελθουσης δε της εντολης η
μαρατια ενεζησεν εγω δε απεθανον
*
I was once
alive apart from the law, but the commandment having come, sin revived and I
died.
“Paul” now comes up with an
explanation for why he does not keep the law.
Και ευρευη μοι η εντολη η εις ζωην αυτη εις θανατον
*
[It} was found to me the command which [was] to life this [was] death.
Η γαρ αμαρτια αφορμην λαβουσα δια της εντολης εξηπατησεν
με και δι αυτης αποκτεινεν
* Sin, having taken an occasion through the
command, deceived me and through it killed me.
Ωστε ο μεν νομος αγιος και η εντολη αγια και δικαια και αγαθη
·
So the law is holy, and the command is holy and righteous and
good.
Ancient
world snarkiness.
Το ουν αγαθον εμοι εγεντο θανατος μη
γενοιτο αλλα η αμαρτια ινα φανη αμαρτια δια του αγαθου μοι κατεργαζομενη
θανατον ινα γενηται καθ υπερβολην αμαρτωλος η αμαρτια δια της εντολης

Has that which is good become death to me? Never may it be! But sin, in order
that it might appear sin, through that which [is] good to me working out death. In order that sin might become beyond
excessively sinful through the command.
Οιδαμεν γαρ οτι ο νομος πνεθματικος
εστιν εγω δε σαρκινος ειμι πεπραμενος υπο την αμαρτιαν
* We know that the law is spiritly, but I
am fleshly, having been sold under sin.
Ο γαρ κατεργαζομαι ου γινωσκω ου γαρ ο θελω τουτο πρασσω
αλλ ο μισω τουτο ποιω
* Working out , I do not own. I do not want this which I do. What I hate, I practice.
Ει δε ο ου θελω τουτο ποιω συμφημι τω νομω οτι καλος
* If what I do not want, I do, I consent to
the law, that it is good.
Νυνι δε ουκετι εγω καεργαζομαι αυτο αλλα
η οικουα εν εμοι αμαρτια
* Now it is no
longer I am working it ou, but sin dwelling in me.
Οιδα γαρ οτι ουκ οικει εν εμοι τουτ
εστιν εν τη σαρκι μου αγαθον το γαρ θελειν παρακλειται μοι το δε κατεργαζεσθαι
το καλον ου
* I know that
nothing dwells in me, that is in my flesh, good. The will is present with me, but
to work out good, not.
Ου γαρ ο θελω ποιω αγαθον αλλα ο ου θελω κακον τουτο
προσσω
* What I do
not want, I practice good, but what I do not want evil, this I do.
Ει δε ο ου θελω τουτο ποιω ουκετι εφω κατεργαζομαι αυτο
αλλα η οικουσα εν εμοι αμαρτια
* If what I do not want this I
practice, I am no longer working it out but sin dwelling
in me
ευρισκω ατα τον νομον τω θελοντι εμοι ποιειν το καλον οτι
εμοι το κακον παρακειται
*
I find the
law, me willing to practice good, that evil is present in me.
Συνηδομαι γαρ τω νομω του θεου κατα τον εσω ανθρωπον
* I delight in the law of God, according to the
inner man,
This
does not make sense.
Βλεπω δε
ετερον νομον εν τοις μελεσιν μου αντιστρατευομενον τω νομω του νοος μου και
αιχμαλωτιζοντα με εν τω νομω της αμαρτιας τω οντι εν τοις μελεσιν μου
* I see another law in my members. warring
against the law of my mind and leading me captive to the law of sin that dwells
in my members.
In
1 Cor, “Paul” said, when I was a baby, I thought as a baby, I acted as a
baby. When I became a man, I put away
babyish things. If this is the same
Paul, either he forgot that, or he has not gotten around to it yet.
ταλαιπωρος εφω ανθρωπος τις με ρυσεται εκ του σωματος του
θανατου τουτου
* Wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out
of this body of death?
χαρις δε τω θεω δια Ιησου Χριστου του κυριου ημων αρα ουν
αυτος εγω τω μεν νοι δουλευω νομω θεου τη δε σαρκι νομω αμαρτιας
* Thanks to God through Jesus Christ our
Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with the mind, but with the flesh
I serve the law of sin.
Ουδεν αρα νυν κατακριμα τοις εν Xριστω Ιησου μη κατα σαρκα
περιπατουσιν αλλα κατα πνευμα
* There is therefore
now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Who walk not according
to flesh, but according to spirit
Ο γαρ νομος του ονευματος της ζωης εν Χριστω Ιησου
ηλευθερωσεν σε απο του νομου της αμαρτιας και του θανατου
* For the law
of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and
death.
Το γαρ αδυνατον του νομου εν ω ησθενει
δια της σαρκος ο θεος τον εαυτου υιον πεμψας εν ομοιωματι σαρκος αμαρτιας και
περι αμαρτιας κατεκρινεν την αμαρτιαν εν τη σαρκι
* For powerless
being the law in that it was weak through the flesh God, having sent his son,
in the likeness of flesh of sin and for sin condemned sin in the flesh,
ινα το
δικαιωμα του νομου πληροθη εν ημιν τοις μη κατα σαρκα περιποτουσιν αλλα κατα
πνευμα
* In order that the requirement of the law should
be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the
Spirit.
Οι γαρ κατα σαρκα οντες τα της σαρκος
φρονουσιν οι δε κατα πνευμα τα του πνευματος
* For those
who are according to the flesh mind the things of the flesh, but those who are
according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
Το γαρ φρονημα της σαρκος θανατος το δε
φρονημα του πνευματος ζωη και ειρηνη
* The mind of
the flesh [is] death, but [the] mind on the Spirit life and peace.
Διοτι το φρονημα της σαρκος εχθρα εις
θεον τω γαρ νομω του θεου ουχ υποτασσεται ουδε γαρ δυναται
* Because the mind of the flesh is hostililty to
God, to God’s law; it is not subject indeed, it cannot.
Οι δε εν σαρκι οντες θεω αρεσαι ου
δθνανται
* Indeed who
are in the flesh are not able to please God.
υμεις δε ουκ
εστε εν σαρκι αλλα εν πνευματι ειπερ πνευμα θεου οικει εν υμιν ει δε τις πνεθμα
Χριστου ουκ εχει ουτος ουκ εστιν αυτου
*
You
however, are not in the flesh but in the spirit, if the spirit of God dwells in
you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he is not of him.
Ει δε Χριστος εν υμιν το μεν σωμα νεκρον
δια αμαρτιαν το δε πνεθμα ζωη δια δικαιοσυνην
* If Christ in
you, the body is dead no account of sin, the Spirit lives on account of
righteousness.
Ει δε το πνευμα του εγειραντος τον
Ιησουν εκ νεκρων οικει εν υμιν ο εγειρας εκ νεκρων Χριστον Ιησουν ζωοποιησει
και τα φνητα σωματα υμων δια του ενοικουντος αυτου πνευματος εν υμιν
* If the Spirit of the one having raised
Jesus from the corpses dwells in you, the one having raised Christ Jesus from
the corpses will also give life to your mortal bodies on account of his Spirit that
dwells in you.
Αρα ουν αδελφοι οφειλεται εσμεν ου τη σαρκι του κατα σαρκα
ζην
*
So then,
brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
Ει γαρ κατα σαρκα ζητε μελλετε
αποθνησκειν ει δε πνευματι τας πραξεις του σωματος θανατουτε ζησεσθε
* For if you live according to the flesh you
are about to die, but if by the Spirit, you put to death the deeds of the body,
you will live.
Οσοι γαρ πνευματι θεου αγονται ουτοι
υιοι θεου εισιν
* As many as are led by the Spirit of God are
sons of God.
Ου γαρ ελαβετε πνευμα δουλειας παλιν εις
φοβον αλλα ελαβετε πνευμα υιοθεσιας εν ω κραζομεν αββα ο πατηρ
* For you did
not receive a spirit of slavery again into fear, but you received a spirit of
adoption as sons, by which we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Also
in 1 Cor.
αυτο το πνευμα
συμμαρτυρει τω πνευματι ημων οτι εσμεν τεκνα θεου
* The Spirit itself bears witness with our
spirit that we are children of God,
ει δε τεκνα
και κληρονομοι κληρονομοι μεν θεου συνκληρονομοι δε Χριστου ειπερ συμπασχομεν
ινα και συνδοξασθωμεν
* And if children, heirs—heirs of God and joint
heirs with Christ, if we suffer jointly with him in order that we may also be
glorified together.
Λογιζομαι γαρ οτι ουκ αξια τα παθηματα
του νυν καιρου προς την μελλουσαν δοξαν αποκαλυφθηναι εις ημας
* I reckon that
the sufferings of the present are not worthy time with the glory that is about to
be revealed to us.
Η γαρ αποκαραδοκια της κρισεως την
αποκαλυψιν των υιων του θεου απεκδεχεται
* The creation
awaits with earnest expectation the revelation of the sons of God.
Τη γαρ ματαιοτητι η κτισις ουχ εκουσα
αλλα δια τον υποταξαντα εφ ελπιδι
* the creation was subjected to futility,
not willingly, but because of the one having subjected it, in hope
οτι και αυτη η
κτισις ελευθερωθησεται απο της δουλειας της φθορας εις την ελευθεριαν της δοξης
των τεκνων του θεου
* The creation
itself will be set free from its slavery to decay into the freedom of the glory
of the children of God.
Οιδαμεν γαρ οτι πασα η κτισις συστεναζει και συνωδινει αχρι του νυν
* We know that the whole creation has
been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.
Ου μονον δε αλλα και αυτοι την απαρχην
του πνευματος εχοντες ημεις και αυτοι εν εαυτοις στεναζομεν θιοθεσιαν
απεκδεχομενοι την απολυτρωσιν του σωματος ημων
* Not only the
creation, but ourselves, having the firstfruit of the Spirit, groaning in
ourselves as we awaiting adoption, the redemption of our bodies.

* In this hope
we were saved. hope that is seen is not hope. Does anyone hope for what he sees?

the spirit jointly helps us in our weakness. The things we should pray for as is necessary we do not know, but the

not spare his own son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him

This
was not written by someone who knew the Judean canon. 1 Cor cited the Sarah/Hagar narrative as a
theological basis. This is using Abraham
to claim inheritance and disinherit Judeans, while at the same time bypassing
Moses/Torah and David/Temple, as a way of attaching to Judean heritage but not
having to comply with law, or having to worry about being unacceptable to
Temple praxis.

accurate quote from Ex 33:19

what God tells Moses to tell Pharaoh that God has said to pass the word along,
as part of the warning before the plagues begin.

Isaiah

And Isa 26:16: “See,
I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.”
